Should Kostecki have stayed at Erebus

As Brodie Kostecki nears the end of his tenure, Erebus Motorsport is back to its winning best and Dick Johnson Racing is mired in the midpack. The frayed relationship between the respective parties has long been intimated and for reasons never fully explained publicly by anyone, Kostecki sat out the first two rounds of 2024. Kostecki returned for the third event in Taupō where Erebus Motorsport CEO Barry Ryan put a stake in the ground – the drivers’ championship was a distant dream but the team would win the Bathurst 1000. He was true to his word. After winning the Great Race, that momentum continued on the streets of Surfers Paradise where Kostecki enjoyed his first solo win of the season. So what changed? “It’s been a bit of a momentum shift in the last three or four months. Everybody is happy and excited to be racing again,” said Ryan after the Gold Coast 500. “At the start of the year was a shit fight. We’ve got to be honest about it, we dug deep and we’re all in a good head space including this champion. “I’m just so proud of the way he’s got through the year. “We had […]

Stanaway locked in at PremiAir Racing

Grove Racing outcast Richie Stanaway will remain a full-time Supercars Championship driver in 2025, replacing Tim Slade at PremiAir Racing. Stanaway won the race for the hotly contested PremiAir seat following the Sandown 500. The ink has now dried with team owner Peter Xiberras ready to talk about securing the 32-year-old Kiwi. “There is no doubting Richie is exceptionally talented – you don’t have a CV like his or win the Bathurst 1000 by accident after all – and while he was forced to endure an early exit at Sandown this year, it was clear that he has what it takes, especially when the weather gods are against you,” Xiberras said. “We look forward to having Richie join our team alongside Jimmy Golding and seeing what we can achieve together.” Stanaway and Golding were teammates at Garry Rogers Motorsport in 2019. The former endured rough full-time Supercars seasons at Tickford Racing and GRM before spending three years out of the sport. He returned as a wildcard at Bathurst in 2022 before winning the Great Race with Triple Eight last year. Making a full-time comeback with Grove Racing in 2024, the team decided to cut him loose in favour of Super2 […]

Slade Announces Full Time Retirement

Tim Slade has announced the 2024 Repco Supercars Championship will be his last as a full-time driver. The 39-year-old took to social media this afternoon to share the news, deciding now is the time to step away after making his debut in the championship in 2009. “Ahhh car racing… Definitely provides a rollercoaster of emotions,” said Slade in his statement. “2024 is my 15th and will now be my last year competing full time in Supercars. “I’m proud to have spent that length of time racing at the top level in Australia in one of the most competitive series in the world. “I’m looking forward to finishing it off the best way possible in the remaining races this year and also for what’s to come next. “I’m very appreciative to the many people that have made it all possible over the years, especially and firstly my Dad and secondly, James Rosenberg [long-time supporter].” PremiAir Racing also confirmed the news via social media, with team owner Peter Xiberras thanking Slade for his role in boosting the young team towards the front of the grid. “Since joining as our full-time driver in 2023, Tim has consistently impressed us with his race craft […]

Skaife Steps Down from Supercars Board

Racing Australia Consolidated Enterprises (RACE), the owner of Supercars, has confirmed Mark Skaife is no longer on its board of directors after stepping down ahead of the Bathurst 1000. Skaife has stepped down from his position as a director of RACE and its Supercars subsidiaries, with the big change to take place in coming weeks ahead of the Bathurst 1000. With TV rights negotiations coming up due to the current deal with Fox Sports and Seven, the five-time Supercars champion felt the timing was right to step back. However, RACE will still use the knowledge of the 90-time race winner in an advisory role. Skaife has been calling Supercars ever since his retirement in 2008 as an expert on the Supercars TV broadcast beamed by Fox Sports since the pay TV network took over in 2015. A Supercars statement confirmed the news and stated that Skaife decided to “remove any perception of conflicts” due to his role behind the microphone. Supercars’ statement read: “Racing Australia Consolidated Enterprises Ltd (RACE), the owner of Australasia’s premier motorsport category, the Repco Supercars Championship, today confirmed that Mark Skaife OAM will step down from his position as a director RACE and its Supercars subsidiaries, […]

Toyota to join Supercars in 2026 with GR Supra

Powerhouse brand Toyota Australia has sensationally confirmed the GR Supra will join the Repco Supercars Championship from 2026. In a blockbuster announcement, Toyota will field a minimum of four Gen3 GR Supras in 2026. Two Supras will be run by homologation team partner Walkinshaw Andretti United, driven by Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood, with a second team to be announced in due course. Supercheap Auto Best Performing Oils 2024 Video

A tranquil lakeside location transforms into a high-octane holiday park with the release of automotive retailer Supercheap Auto’s latest Make Every Trip Super with the Best Performing Oils campaign. The campaign series celebrates its tenth instalment by doubling down on the hijinks and high stakes in a seven-minute film created by TAXI Film Production and Chimera Project. The 2024 campaign is set at the idyllic Lake Redline Holiday Park – a holiday hot spot created especially for the film at Queensland’s Lakeside Park racetrack – where the peaceful serenity is shattered by five pairs of “holidaymakers” gunning for a prime waterfront camping site. Adding to the excitement, their vehicles are also kitted out with tinnies, caravans and roof racks stacked high with holiday essentials. The stars of the show are Supercheap Auto’s ‘Best Performing Oils’ – Nulon, Penrite, Valvoline, Mobil and Castrol – taken through their paces by Supercars and motorsport stars Chaz Mostert, Ryan Wood, Molly Taylor, Rick Kelly, Matt Mingay, James Golding, Garth Tander, Matthew Payne, James Moffat and Michael Guest. Building on the casts of past films, drivers, celebrities, and sports stars make 64 cameo appearances including Grant Denyer and Craig Lowndes, DJ Carl Cox and Skid Factory’s Woody (Ben Wood) in a Mr Zippy ice-cream truck; Charli Robinson, and Corey Parker.
