Kiwi van Gisbergen wins inaugural Mexico NASCAR race

Kiwi Shane van Gisbergen has mastered the Mexico City road course to score his first NASCAR Cup Series win this season and set up a shot at championship glory. The New Zealander led 60 of 100 laps on Sunday at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez to earn his first cup victory since his NASCAR debut at the inaugural 2023 street course race in Chicago. The former Australian V8 Supercars champion started the race ranked 33rd in the cup standings with only one top-10 finish through the first 15 races. But his victory in Mexico City earned him an automatic berth into NASCAR’s playoffs with a shot to race for the Cup Series championship. Van Gisbergen arrived in Mexico City early Friday morning but was still awaiting many crew members who had been delayed by flights. Then he got sick late Saturday and was sleeping on the floor of his hauler before Sunday’s race. “I felt pretty rubbish today, that wasn’t fun,” he said. “Our car was amazing. That last stint, man, what a pleasure just ripping lap after lap and watching them get smaller in the mirror. Unreal.” He won pole and started the race as favourite, particularly since rain was in […]

Shane van Gisbergen soars to Busch Light Pole in Mexico City

Shane van Gisbergen claimed his first Busch Light Pole position of the season Saturday afternoon at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez and will lead the field to green in the inaugural Viva Mexico 250 Sunday in Mexico City. Smiling and referring to road courses as his “natural habitat,” van Gisbergen was quite satisfied with his work in the No. 88 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet — especially considering the unknown of a first-time race at the venue. Inaugural races have been a plus on his resume. He made NASCAR history in 2023, famously winning the Chicago Street Race in his very first series start. “It was a great session for us, we kind of lacked in a lot of areas yesterday [in practice] with our car getting the balance we wanted and went through a lot of challenges last night — a couple I thought were maybe too much — and started my lap and the car felt magic right from the start,” van Gisbergen said. The pole position and positive start of the weekend could prove especially important as van Gisbergen is ranked 33rd in the championship standings, essentially needing a race victory to earn a position in the 16-driver NASCAR Cup Series […]

Isle of Man Senior TT Cancelled

Isle of Man TT race organisers have made the difficult call to cancel the highlight of this year’s event, the Senior TT. But given deteriorating conditions around the 37.73-mile circuit, it’s hard to see the decision as anything other than exactly the right call to conclude what has up until this point been one of the safest TT fortnights in history. The race was originally set to get underway at 1045 on Saturday morning for six laps, before heavy overnight rain and morning showers first pushed the start time back to 1245 and then 1445, before organisers eventually announced that a four-lap race would go at 1900. Riders completed a course inspection lap beforehand, though, and initial feedback was mixed to say the least, with some immediately pulling off the grid and announcing that they wouldn’t race even if it went ahead. At that point, clerk of course Gary Thompson pulled the entire starting grid into a riders only meeting to gauge feedback before making the difficult announcement to cancel the Senior TT for only the second time in history. “After consultation with competitors,” he announced on the paddock PA system, “the feeling is that it is unsuitable for racing […]

Dunlop continues Supersport dominance with 32nd TT win

Michael Dunlop continued his dominance of the Supersport category at the Isle of Man TT by taking victory in Wednesday’s delayed race two in the class for his third win of the week. The success in the four-lapper took the Northern Ireland rider’s overall tally of career wins at the event to an all-time record-extending 32. Dunlop finished 26.1 seconds ahead of Dean Harrison, with Davey Todd a further 15.8 seconds adrift in third. The 36-year-old has now won 15 Supersport TT races, including the past eight in a row, courtesy of four consecutive doubles between 2022 and 2025. The county Antrim rider had given Italian marque Ducati their first TT win for 30 years when he was first in Monday’s opening Supersport outing, a triumph which was also notable for being the seventh different manufacturer on which Dunlop had achieved success over the 37.73-mile Mountain Course. “The wee bike [Ducati Panigale V2] is mint and it never missed a beat,” a delighted Dunlop told Radio TT after the race. “We buy our own bikes and choose our own manufacturers and winning races is what I’m here to do so I’m happy. To be in the 30s bracket is great. “It’s nice […]

Harrison ends Isle of Man TT win drought

Honda Racing rider Dean Harrison is no longer the bridesmaid at the 2025 Isle of Man TT after backing up third and second in the opening two races of this year’s event with a stunning victory over Davey Todd and Michael Dunlop in the shortened two-lap opening superstock race of this year’s event. It was Todd, not usual early charger Harrison, who led to the first timing point at Glen Helen on the opening lap of the race and looked to be in control of the race across the first lap – but as they crossed Glencrutchery Road his small two-second gap from across the Mountain had dropped to only 0.4s. And by the time they got to Glen Helen for the second time round, it was Harrison who was into the lead by a slender margin – a gap that he was then just able to extend and extend out to the chequered flag, where he took his fourth win and first since 2019, and Honda Racing’s first since John McGuinness won the Senior TT for it in 2015. Harrison went into race week as perhaps more of a favourite for race wins than he has in recent seasons, […]

Todd holds off charging Dunlop to take Superbike TT win

Davey Todd held off a sustained charge from Michael Dunlop to take a start-to-finish victory in a thrilling Isle of Man TT Superbike race, which was reduced from six laps to four. The 29-year-old had an advantage of just 1.2 seconds over Dunlop by the end of the race, with the fastest lap of the race of 135.327mph on his final circuit helping the 8TEN Racing BMW rider secure the win. For Todd, it is the third TT win of his career, the Yorkshireman having won the Superstock and Senior races at the event in 2024. The two-time British Superstock 1000cc champion built up a 7.9-second lead after lap one and his advantage after the second lap was just marginally less at 7.1 seconds. However, Todd lost six seconds to his rival in the pits and the gap was reduced to 0.2 seconds after the riders went through Glen Helen on the final lap but the eventual victor rallied to secure the success, with Honda Racing’s Dean Harrison a further 43.5 seconds behind in third. “I’m over the moon, this feels sweet. The boys have done a fantastic job,” Todd told Radio TT after the race. “I was more nervous […]

Hickman injured in Isle of Man TT qualifying crash

Fourteen-time Isle of Man TT winner Peter Hickman has been injured in a crash during Friday night’s practice for the race. The 8Ten Racing BMW rider was reported by the TT organisers to be ‘conscious and stable’ following a fall at Kerrowmoar that brought out red flags during the second session of the day. Honda Racing rider Dean Harrison led the practice session away, with Hickman second on his superstock machine. He crashed at Kerrowmoar, a fast left hand corner directly after Ginger Hall, where he fell in last year’s Senior TT while leading the race. He was transported by air ambulance (a standard procedure at the TT) to Noble’s hospital on the Isle of Man, where organisers described his condition as conscious and stable. Hickman’s BMW was smoking slightly when he left the start line on Glencrutchery Road, and initial reports suggest that it continued to emit smoke as he lapped, and his lower fairing looked visibly loose on the TT’s live TV coverage, although it’s unknown at this time if that was a contributing factor to his fall. The fall brought out the red flags in the session immediately, with riders stopped on track before being escorted back […]

Harrison fastest for 2025 IOMTT Wednesday Practice

Dean Harrison set the fastest lap speed in the first timed Superbike qualifying session for the Isle of Man TT on Wednesday. The Honda Racing rider circulated at a blistering 133.069mph on his second lap of the evening, 15.5 seconds faster than Peter Hickman, who recorded 131.076 on his 8Ten Racing BMW. Harrison, 36, is in his second season with the Japanese manufacturer and will be looking to add to his three TT wins to date, the most recent of those coming in 2019. His speed, set in perfect conditions, was the fastest ever registered in an opening qualifying session for the meeting. Hickman’s team-mate Davey Todd was third on the Superbike leaderboard at 130.402, followed by record 29-time winner Michael Dunlop on 129.975 on his Rokit BMW. Yorkshireman Todd was quickest in the Superstock category with a speed of 131.231, with Harrison one second slower in second with at 131.098 and Michael Dunlop next fastest on 130.387. Todd earned the first TT win of his career by taking victory in the Superstock race in 2024 so will be aiming for a repeat of that result. Dunlop was best of the Supersports on his Ducati V2 at 127.181, with Harrison […]

MotoGP rider Luca Marini injured in ‘heavy’ Suzuka test crash

Factory Honda MotoGP rider Luca Marini has been seriously injured while testing for this year’s Suzuka 8 Hour, suffering significant injuries at the Japanese circuit following a crash on Wednesday. “Having completed a successful first day, the Italian began the second day of his programme but crashed heavily,” said Honda in an official statement. “Suffering from a dislocated left hip, damage to the ligaments in his left knee, fractures in the sternum and left collarbone, and a right-sided pneumothorax, Marini was transferred to local hospital and stabilised. “Marini will remain under observation in Japan until he is deemed fit to travel.” No further information has been released at this time by the team, but the factor of a pneumothorax – a punctured lung, one of the injuries also suffered by reigning world champion Jorge Martin at the Qatar GP last month – likely complicates his recovery by restricting Marini’s ability to fly home immediately. Marini had traveled straight from last weekend’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone to Suzuka alongside LCR Honda racer Johann Zarco, who won last year’s race for the factory HRC team alongside Takumi Takahashi and Teppei Nagoe, and who will return to action again this year. Marini […]

Jack Miller Back with HRC Next Year

Jack Miller’s place on the MotoGP grid for 2026 is far from assured — but Honda are keen to secure the Aussie’s services for their WorldSBK team, according to recent reports. While it’s understood a formal offer hasn’t been signed off, sources in the paddock suggest that Miller is firmly on Honda’s radar. The Japanese manufacturer — still trying to unlock results since returning to full-factory status in 2020 — is believed to be considering new and experienced talent for a reset, and Miller’s vast MotoGP experience with four brands makes him a standout candidate. Miller remains committed to MotoGP with Pramac Yamaha, and is focused on turning his form around approaching the second half of 2025 season. The Queenslander had a positive outing in Austin, finishing fifth and delivering one of Yamaha’s better results to that point. He also showed encouraging one-lap speed in Thailand, qualifying fourth and looking strong early in the sprint before crashing out while running at the front. However, consistency has eluded the 29-year-old. He has failed to finish the past three races, crashing out at the Qatar and French rounds, while a technical issue forced him out at Jerez. The French GP in particular […]
