Harrison ends Isle of Man TT win drought

Honda Racing rider Dean Harrison is no longer the bridesmaid at the 2025 Isle of Man TT after backing up third and second in the opening two races of this year’s event with a stunning victory over Davey Todd and Michael Dunlop in the shortened two-lap opening superstock race of this year’s event. It was Todd, not usual early charger Harrison, who led to the first timing point at Glen Helen on the opening lap of the race and looked to be in control of the race across the first lap – but as they crossed Glencrutchery Road his small two-second gap from across the Mountain had dropped to only 0.4s. And by the time they got to Glen Helen for the second time round, it was Harrison who was into the lead by a slender margin – a gap that he was then just able to extend and extend out to the chequered flag, where he took his fourth win and first since 2019, and Honda Racing’s first since John McGuinness won the Senior TT for it in 2015. Todd holds off charging Dunlop to take Superbike TT win

Davey Todd held off a sustained charge from Michael Dunlop to take a start-to-finish victory in a thrilling Isle of Man TT Superbike race, which was reduced from six laps to four. The 29-year-old had an advantage of just 1.2 seconds over Dunlop by the end of the race, with the fastest lap of the race of 135.327mph on his final circuit helping the 8TEN Racing BMW rider secure the win. For Todd, it is the third TT win of his career, the Yorkshireman having won the Superstock and Senior races at the event in 2024. The two-time British Superstock 1000cc champion built up a 7.9-second lead after lap one and his advantage after the second lap was just marginally less at 7.1 seconds. However, Todd lost six seconds to his rival in the pits and the gap was reduced to 0.2 seconds after the riders went through Glen Helen on the final lap but the eventual victor rallied to secure the success, with Honda Racing’s Dean Harrison a further 43.5 seconds behind in third. “I’m over the moon, this feels sweet. Hickman injured in Isle of Man TT qualifying crash

Fourteen-time Isle of Man TT winner Peter Hickman has been injured in a crash during Friday night’s practice for the race. The 8Ten Racing BMW rider was reported by the TT organisers to be ‘conscious and stable’ following a fall at Kerrowmoar that brought out red flags during the second session of the day. Honda Racing rider Dean Harrison led the practice session away, with Hickman second on his superstock machine. He crashed at Kerrowmoar, a fast left hand corner directly after Ginger Hall, where he fell in last year’s Senior TT while leading the race. He was transported by air ambulance (a standard procedure at the TT) to Noble’s hospital on the Isle of Man, where organisers described his condition as conscious and stable. Hickman’s BMW was smoking slightly when he left the start line on Glencrutchery Road, and initial reports suggest that it continued to emit smoke as he lapped, and his lower fairing looked visibly loose on the TT’s live TV coverage, although it’s unknown at this time if that was a contributing factor to his fall. Harrison fastest for 2025 IOMTT Wednesday Practice

Dean Harrison set the fastest lap speed in the first timed Superbike qualifying session for the Isle of Man TT on Wednesday. The Honda Racing rider circulated at a blistering 133.069mph on his second lap of the evening, 15.5 seconds faster than Peter Hickman, who recorded 131.076 on his 8Ten Racing BMW. Harrison, 36, is in his second season with the Japanese manufacturer and will be looking to add to his three TT wins to date, the most recent of those coming in 2019. His speed, set in perfect conditions, was the fastest ever registered in an opening qualifying session for the meeting. Hickman’s team-mate Davey Todd was third on the Superbike leaderboard at 130.402, followed by record 29-time winner Michael Dunlop on 129.975 on his Rokit BMW. Yorkshireman Todd was quickest in the Superstock category with a speed of 131.231, with Harrison one second slower in second with at 131.098 and Michael Dunlop next fastest on 130.387. MotoGP rider Luca Marini injured in ‘heavy’ Suzuka test crash

Factory Honda MotoGP rider Luca Marini has been seriously injured while testing for this year’s Suzuka 8 Hour, suffering significant injuries at the Japanese circuit following a crash on Wednesday. “Having completed a successful first day, the Italian began the second day of his programme but crashed heavily,” said Honda in an official statement. “Suffering from a dislocated left hip, damage to the ligaments in his left knee, fractures in the sternum and left collarbone, and a right-sided pneumothorax, Marini was transferred to local hospital and stabilised. “Marini will remain under observation in Japan until he is deemed fit to travel.” No further information has been released at this time by the team, but the factor of a pneumothorax – a punctured lung, one of the injuries also suffered by reigning world champion Jorge Martin at the Qatar GP last month – likely complicates his recovery by restricting Marini’s ability to fly home immediately. Jack Miller Back with HRC Next Year

Jack Miller’s place on the MotoGP grid for 2026 is far from assured — but Honda are keen to secure the Aussie’s services for their WorldSBK team, according to recent reports. While it’s understood a formal offer hasn’t been signed off, sources in the paddock suggest that Miller is firmly on Honda’s radar. The Japanese manufacturer — still trying to unlock results since returning to full-factory status in 2020 — is believed to be considering new and experienced talent for a reset, and Miller’s vast MotoGP experience with four brands makes him a standout candidate. Miller remains committed to MotoGP with Pramac Yamaha, and is focused on turning his form around approaching the second half of 2025 season. The Queenslander had a positive outing in Austin, finishing fifth and delivering one of Yamaha’s better results to that point. He also showed encouraging one-lap speed in Thailand, qualifying fourth and looking strong early in the sprint before crashing out while running at the front. With anticipation and excitement building all the time for this year’s Isle of Man TT Races, that will ramp up today with the top 20 start numbers for the RST X D3O Superbike, RL360/Opul Superstock and Milwaukee Senior TT Races finally being revealed. For the third time in four years, John McGuinness MBE will lead the field away at number one, the Honda Racing UK rider enjoying a more than profitable 2024 with fifth, sixth and seventh place finishes. In a TT career now spanning almost thirty years, the Superbike TT will be the 23-time winner’s 112th TT start. Moving up the order to number two this year is David Johnson (Platinum Club Racing Kawasaki), the Australian hoping for a trouble-free campaign in 2025. GM appoints Team 18 to replace Triple Eight

General Motors has revealed Team 18 as its new homologation team in Supercars, and announced an alliance between all teams, General Motors Motorsports and Chevrolet Racing. After a weeks-long search, triggered by Triple Eight’s switch to Ford, Team 18 has been confirmed as the official homologation partner of Chevrolet Racing. The Melbourne-based, Charlie Schwerkolt-owned team has campaigned GM machinery since 2015, with Team 18 operating as a two-car squad since 2020. Team 18 won out in a race that seemed set to be won by PremiAir Racing, with the former to take over from Ford-bound Triple Eight next season. Since the start of 2024, Schwerkolt has recruited decorated engineers Adrian Burgess and Dr Geoff Slater, with the team also benefiting from the experience of Richard Hollway, Som Sharma and Andrew Donnelly. Also confirmed Friday was that GM Motorsports, along with General Motors Australia & New Zealand, will form a new alliance with Chevrolet teams as part of its ongoing commitment to Supercars. Jack Doohan ‘horrific’ 185mph practice crash

Jack Doohan is “shaken” but “unharmed” after suffering a high-speed crash during Friday practice at the F1 Japanese Grand Prix. The Australian, who sat out of opening practice as Alpine opted to run reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa on home soil, lost control of his car and spun off into the barriers at Turn 1. Doohan suffered extensive damage to his Alpine, including losing two wheels, and was seen gingerly walking away from the scene of the huge crash. He was uninjured in the accident and did not suffer a concussion, having been cleared following a trip to the Suzuka medical centre.
